Hooray! I finally finished this book. It didn't take too long because I had a hard time putting it down. The story was so much better than I expected!
I discovered something at the end of the book that surprised and disappointed me. This was that the author of the story wasn't Annie Sullivan at all! I probably should've realized this at the beginning, but I didn't. The author actually used snippets (I ♥ that word) of letters and biographies to form a book that is her opinion of everything that happened between Helen and Annie. This disappointed me because some of the most exciting and breathtaking parts may not have even been true.
One character in the book that I like and admire is Helen Keller. Though she was faced with one of life's most challenging obstacles, she was able to become a prominent American leader. Just imagine, going from a wild beast who is deaf and blind to a smart civilized person! That is amazing and unbelievable. It also would have taken so much bravery and courage to do this. Don't you think so?
Last, I will share a synopsis that I wrote which could be portrayed on the back of the book. It goes as follows: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a deaf and blind outcast? Or how hard it would be to teach someone who is? All of this and more is in the marvelous book called Miss Spitfire: Reaching Helen Keller. Read this inspiring story filled with hardship, bravery, and of course, triumphs!
So, I really hope that you will decide to read it! I definitely recommend this story to you! Bye!
When thoughts... and breathless darkness, and the narrow house, make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart; go forth under the open sky and listen to nature's teachings.
