In case anyone is wondering, you will understand what the title means later in this post, so keep on reading. It has been like forever since I last wrote here. I had plenty of time to read on a loooooooonngg car trip to Florida. I started my challenge book, which is called Anne of Green Gables. I am about halfway through and am really enjoying it (for the most part).
To start, let me introduce you to Anne Shirley, the main character in the book. She is a young girl of about twelve with bright red hair and a temper to match it. She normally speaks or takes action on the first thing that comes to her mind, making her very heedless and impulsive. This usually gets her into big trouble. For example, one time she even broke her slate over another kid's head at school! (By the way, this book takes place at about 1900, I think.) Anne is also a very bright girl with lots of spunk and an enormous imagination. If anybody reading this thinks that they talk to a great extent, I can guarantee that Anne talks more. This makes the beginning kind of boring because she speaks relentlessly.
I like this book, but then again there are some parts that make me want to throw it down, start screaming, and never look at it again. This is mostly the vocabulary that Anne uses in the first part. To show you, I'll quote a few of the words that are used at least twice in the story.
1. Aesthetic
2. Addlepated
3. Limpid
This book is unique, though. One of the reasons that I decided to read it was because of the setting. Before now, I've never started a book that took place in Canada. There isn't much of a difference between it and a setting in America. Do you think you would like this book?
Last, is a text-to-self connection between Anne and me. It is that we both ♥ reading. But we do have extremely different tastes. She liked old timey books and famous poetry such as the Iliad, Tennyson's poems, and Ben-Hur. I like reading more exciting fantasy and mystery books. Can you see the difference?
Thanks for reading my blog. So far, I'm recommending this to you. See ya soon!
